Take yourself back 20 years. Back to 1997. Back to Britpop. Back to the biggest rivalry of the county, between Damon Albarn and Noel Gallagher. Now fast forward to today. To 2017. To Damon Albarn and Noel Gallagher releasing music together. That’s how crazy Gorillaz’ new album ‘Humanz’ gets.

The fifth studio album from Gorillaz is 20 songs and 6 Interludes long and who hasn’t frontman Alban roped in on the guest list. From ‘Rag’n’Bone Man’ to ‘De La Soul’ ‘Humanz’ really does have every collaboration that you could think of.

Every song on the album has some sort of story to tell, starting with first track ‘Ascension’ – a song about the end of the world. Calling the world a ‘tomb of Jehova’, Albarn teamed with Vince Staples to tackle issues like Brexit, Donald Trump’s new presidency and racism, to kick off the new album.

Fastforward a few songs ‘Momentz’ brings the same dance edge to it as legendary ‘Feel Good Inc’, which also features De la Soul too.

With the album trying to represent a ‘new world’ it ends with the repetition of ‘Circle of Friends’ , implying that all the issues on the album can be overcame or certainly helped by a close ‘Circle of Friends’.

Gorillaz are set to tour ‘Humanz’ across the U.K starting in Manchester on 1st December 2017, get tickets here http://www.gorillaz.com/tour/
